He was born in August 1854 in Bristol. He was the son of Thomas Adams (born Norwich 1818) and Mary Stevens Watkins (born 1814 Bristol). His parents were married at St. James Church on 24th October 1841.

He was christened on 8th October 1854 in Clifton.

In the 1861 census they were living at 1 Charlton Place, Clifton.

In the 1881 census they were living at Woodleigh Villa, Westbury-on-Trym.

He played for Redland Park before joining Clifton.

He became the 2nd Captain of Bristol but emigrated to the USA just before the start of the season and never played.

His nephew was Gerald Scott, 3 Hampton Road, Redland, Bristol.

In 1934 he was living in Clevedon.
